POSITION SUMMARY

This position requires the applicant to successfully pass a drug screening.

This position is Essential and is required to report to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency.

Attends to and cares for animals housed in City facilities. Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The following duties are illustrative for this position. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintaining high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • Feeds and waters animals according to schedules.
  • Cleans and disinfects cages, pens, and yards and feed containers.
  • Performs continual janitorial services throughout the facility.
  • Bathes and grooms animals when needed. Provides parasite control.
  • Transports animals to St. Lucie County Humane Society.
  • Adjusts controls to regulate temperature and humidity of animals' quarters.
  • May record information according to instructions such as genealogy, diet, weight, medications, food intake and license number.
  • Assists in receiving and admitting animals. Prepares identification materials to include the AVID Micro Chip ID System.
  • Repairs cages, pens, or fenced yards.
  • Assists with inventory control and restocking supplies.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     • Ability to establish and maintain the trust and confidence of the department and public. Education and/or Experience:
      Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. One to three month's experience in handling animals with care and compassion without becoming emotionally involved. Valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of clean driving record required.

      While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

      The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
