Job Description:

*Advocacy Specialist**Essential Qualifications: ** Minimum of Bachelor's degree in a social, legal, education, or human service field and a minimum 4 years of related experience - Master's degree preferred* Personal and/or professional experience with a disability or disability related issues* Intermediate understanding of the intricacies of 504 and IEP plans.* A willingness and ability to travel within the service area: Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast* Excellent oral and written communication skills* Knowledge of and the ability to apply the provisions of one or more of the following disability laws: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), The Fair Housing Act, The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Social Security Act, Florida's Transportation Disadvantaged program (Chapter 427.013 F.S.)*Essential Responsibilities: ** Provide education and training to individuals and groups pertaining to the provision and implementation of the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the IDEA and other legislation concerning the rights of persons with disabilities* Provide indivualized advocacy, educational advocacy, transition services, and independent living services to persons with disabilities and their families based on their presenting circumstances.* Assist individuals and families in applying for benefit and entitlement programs as needed.* Provide information and referral services pertaining to any services or programs needed by individuals and the disability community* Be willing to attend and participate in, on a continuing basis, workshops and other educational opportunities for the furtherance of one's knowledge and experience concerning the rights and independence of persons with disabilities* Provide advocacy and representation at meetings and/or hearings* Maintain data for monthly reports as well as confidential consumer filesJob Type: Full-timePay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hourBenefits:* 401(k)* 401(k) matching* Dental insurance* Health insurance* Life insurance* Paid time off* Retirement plan* Vision insuranceSchedule:* 8 hour shift* Day shift* Monday to FridaySupplemental pay types:* Bonus payCOVID-19 considerations:Masks are required in the office common areas.
