North Port St. Lucie Animal Hospital is the combination of three pioneering veterinary hospitals that opened in this area in the mid 1970s. The primary purpose of our Veterinary Student Externship is to provide a hands-on learning experience for 3rd and 4th year students who are enrolled in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program. The program is flexible and can be scheduled in 1- to 4-week blocks, depending on the extern's availability. We feel that the students who possess an open mind and a willingness to learn will benefit the most from our externship.

The Veterinary Student Extern is responsible for performing inpatient and outpatient medical care under the direct supervision of our veterinary staff. They will be expected to perform in-house diagnostic tests (hematology, chemistry, and radiology) with competence, perform routine client education, and to assist in surgical procedures.

Port St. Lucie is one of the largest cities in Florida and it is bordered to the north and south by the very historic towns of Fort Pierce and Stuart, both of which are on the ocean. Port St. Lucie is home to the Spring Training facility of the NY Mets and also offers a AAA Minor League team called the St. Lucie Mets.
