Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a senior community health nursing position functioning as
the STD Nurse clinician in the clinic and assisting the STD program
working with children (12-18), adults, and their families.
This position performs generalized public health work in an area
geographically removed from direct supervision. This position will
provide nursing assessments, case management, and referrals to
other community resources as needed. Nursing services are provided
to identify barriers to learning through the identification of
health problems while utilizing STD testing with referrals and
follow ups. Assists the DIS (disease intervention specialist) with
client interviews and lab draws. Work is performed under the
supervision of the Assistant Director of Nursing.
Provides and documents nursing assessments for clients which
include interviewing, counseling, health education, STD testing,
and STD treatment in the clinic and throughout the community.
Conducts home visits for clients on an as needed basis.
Document's client information in HMS. Prepare and maintain timely
and accurate records and reports for program evaluation purposes
and other records and reports as required.
Interview's clients infected with an STD and educated patients
regarding their infection and future medical follow-up. Develops a
plan to locate and refer their sex partners and others who may be
infected. Case manage and follow up for test of cure as
required.
Conducts field investigations and record searches as well as
follow-up on sex partners and infected patients.
Consults with public and private physicians, epidemiologists,
pathologists, ARNPs, infection control nurses, medical laboratory
technologists, technicians' personnel, and other health care
providers to (1) stimulate case reporting, (2) obtain information
on treated cases or diagnostic determination. (3) secure permission
to apply epidemiologic process to private patients, and (4) provide
current information on diagnosis and treatment. (5) stimulate and
educate providers by influencing the FDOH recommendations, CDC
guidelines protocol for exams. epi-treatment, and treatment of
original patient as well as, the FL 381.0031, 381.004 and
384.24.
Conducts field screenings (serological) of targeted populations as
needed with phlebotomy techniques and universal precautions. Field
activities for community awareness. Provides professional and
in-service updates, education and training as needed. Assist with
blood draws and STD testing in the health clinic and
laboratory.
Participates in educational trainings. Attends mandatory STD clinic
and county health department staff meetings. Completes required
TRAIN.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ambulate more than 100 feet, lift more than 40 pounds, bend, stand
for more than 60 minutes, public speak, current driver's
license
Qualifications:
Minimum
* Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during,
and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an
emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes
working in special needs shelter or performing other emergency
duties including but not limited to, response to or threats
involving any disaster or threat of disaster man-made or
natural.
* Current, active Florida Registered Nursing License or a
multistate Registered Nursing License from another Compact
State
* Valid driver's License, if out of state a Florida driver's
license is required within 30 days of hire (position requires
driving your own and/or a state vehicle to different locations)
Preferred
* 1+ years nursing experience
* Experience presenting health education to individuals or
groups
